modnation report 03

PLATFORM: PS3
RELEASE DATE: 5/2010
DEVELOPER: United Front
ESRB RATING: E
Progress: loading...

I wouldn't be doing much in the way of reporting if I didn't warn my readers about the game-stopping load times in ModNation Racers. It is a crippling factor you should be aware of before purchasing that hides the beauty and hard work that so obviously went into making this game. The game is still bananas-fun but I'd feel bad not telling you outright.

the tester casting call

PLATFORM: PSN
RELEASE DATE: 7/2010

Progress: Round 2 (1/500)

Last season PSN proved they could create some original content for the community with the reality game show The Tester. Despite its quirkiness the show was fun to watch and successfully integrated itself into the PS Store and PS Home spaces. Eleven contestants and 8 episodes of surprises gave the lucky winner, Cyrus, a dream job as a Playstation Game Tester. With season one now under their belt the good folks at Playstation are ready for season two. This time the PS Community gets to vote to elect some of the cast and anyone can try out!

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
I have made it through to round 2 but I need your votes! Click the link and vote (sorry about the registration but it seems safe to me).

darksiders

PLATFORM: PS3
RELEASE DATE: 01/2010
DEVELOPER:
VIGIL
PUBLISHER: THQ
ESRB RATING: M
Progress: 32% Trophies

My hopes were set high with this game, from the first moment I heard comic book superstar Joe Madureira had been drafted to the project. Joe Mad!, as he is known, is a legend for his comic work on X-men, Battle Chasers and most recently Ultimates 3, and it has earned him quite a fan following. The trailer for this game is one of my favorites to date and had me purchasing Darksiders on day one. In fact, I had even stood in line for a signing with Joe Mad! at Big Apple Comic Con and got to play an earlier demo of the game, but more on that later. This is an action RPG game of a fairly high caliber. Slick, post-apocalyptic graphics featuring different gods doing battle for the fate of the world always warrants some attention. The graphics and design, you'll see, are the game's saving grace.

monopoly

PLATFORM: Wii
RELEASE DATE: 10/2008
PUBLISHER: EA

ESRB RATING: E
Progress: 100%

I have found that I actually enjoy playing Monopoly. It's something that just works: on family trips, during a black out or when attempting to ease tension after fighting with your girlfriend.

I was quite excited to find Monopoly for the Wii and bought it without hesitation.  My main motivation being my ongoing mission to persuade my disenchanted friends (and said girlfriend) into playing the Wii with me. It worked like a charm. Despite some major problems I had with the game; it brought hours of fun, routy competition and some long nights.

hustle kings: basement crazy dlc

PLATFORM: PS3
RELEASE DATE: JAN 2010

PUBLISHER: SONY
ESRB RATING: E
Progress: 35% at time of posting

Loving the new "Crazy" tables in Hustle Kings. It really changes the game up. My buddy Verdeberg and I have been playing. The Basement Crazy Table is shaped like a "V" with a elevated area off the felt; that we treat almost like a skate park. Best part of this new table is the download content is free.
